INSPIRATION FROM THE NEWS

We like to keep a sharp eye on the news and look for new openings, trends, or interesting concepts in the food world. Letโ€™s see whatโ€™s up !

A new restaurant in the heart of Sheung Wan

Long-time friends Chefs Romain Dupeyre and Adrien Castillo are about to open a new restaurant in the heart of Sheung Wan, a Hong Kong district, famous for its French population and quiet streets. After years of working at various upscale & Michelin restaurants in France and Asia, the pair decided to join cooking hands and open Racines, (meaning โ€œrootsโ€ in English) which promises to be an exciting culinary journey. The team at Classic Fine Foods Hong Kong is eager to discover what the Chefs, known for their outstanding cooking skills, will offer on their four-hands menu.

A New Collaborative Space opens in Ubud

Indonesia is a digital country and counts more and more nomads workers either locals or foreigners. The latest space to open in Bali is Parq in Ubud. Parq is more than a coworking space: coworking, apartment, concert hall, business space, personal growth spots, spa, hothouse, gym & yoga classes, and restaurants (herbology, ronin, and bittersweet mainly on local products and very plant-based). The concept was to create a space in Bali that is different from the way big cities develop. The futuristic idea of a place where people with common values and interests come together came to life at Parq Ubud. Everyone open to meet new people, cooperation and vivid impressions will be here in their element.

Opening a bakery during the pandemic

When Gooey first arrived in Manchester in 2020, it did so in perfect step with the pandemic. Not ideal for a start-up, but things started to build and it did so really well. Tentatively launching the same month the country plunged into lockdown, no one knew just how much its salty-sweet treats would shape the course of the new isolation. Beginning life as a small pop-up in borrowed space, its bakers soon became Manchesterโ€™s go-to sugar dealers as the business pivoted into home delivery.

Two and a half years later, Gooeyโ€™s new bakery and cafรฉ has opened in Manchester and found a strong supplier at Classic Fine Foods UK. Now, the team is trying something new, with the launch of their very own cafรฉ, which offers an all-day brunch menu that opened in August, and still has queues lining up outside throughout the day.

On the counter, fans of Gooeyโ€™s signature melt-in-the-middle cookies and fluffy donuts can still pick up their favorites, to eat in or takeaway, or ogle a new selection of changing pastries, cakes and specials. The biggest new addition is the new cafรฉ menu, which caters to breakfasters, brunchers, and lunchers from 9 am-6 pm with a range of different things on toast, in sandwiches, or salads.

They also offer โ€˜fancy schmancyโ€™ iced strawberry, vanilla, and matcha lattes, a caramelized white chocolate mocha, and cold-brewed green and white tea with added coconut, pineapple, and hibiscus on the drinks menu.

Gooey aims to open 4 concessions within Manchester and Liverpool, as well as a full seated area within Manchesterโ€™s Trafford centre Selfridges store โ€“ all before Christmas. Already, the team has found a new spot, diagonally opposite their new cafรฉ for a pastries offering, and also has aims for a production unit in 2023. This will be one to watch, as they even have national distribution ambitions!
